Curated by Lauren Kasmer, the exhibition included the work of 10 artists who work in a multitude of mediums. An accompanying catalog was published with an essay by Shana Nys Dambrot who also moderated an artist panel. The artist conversation explored the catalog text chosen by each artist and was followed by a theme related edible food event by Scratch Restaurant Chef Margarita Kallas-Lee. Kasmer received the Curators Award from Fellows of Contemporary Art (FOCA) to realize and present the onsite exhibition.

"Carbon is one of the more fascinating materials on this earth, a malleable molecule - its allotropes allow it to exist both as graphite and diamond, the softest and the hardest of materials. Because it lends itself to structures of complexity, carbon allows for the diversity of all living organisms." - Kasmer

The artists in Carbon are engaged with the chemical element of carbon, one of the most abundant substances in the universe and the basis of all life we know. Each of them addresses the importance of chemistry in understanding of the nature of existence—some through materials and mediums, others through technique and subject, and all with a unique sense of metaphorical potential.
