Merge: A collaborative installation of painting, video, and sound
Paintings: Bonita Helmer
Video and Sound: Lauren Kasmer
George Billis Gallery exhibited Merge - a collaborative project featuring paintings and video by Bonita Helmer and Lauren Kasmer in their Project Space December 2018 - January 2019. The Merge project is created by two artists with two different disciplines who share the same principles in their work. Bonita Helmer's paintings are abstract references to physics and space. Lauren Kasmer's video and composed sound installations seemingly reflect the natural world of the earth as we know it. In their individual explorations, the artists find the same principles exist simultaneously in both arenas - whether that be on our planet or in space. When the disciplines are merged, some images remains fixed and others fade in and out imparting the concept that there is no difference between ‘here and there.’ Both artists’ works are poetically and theoretically merged by the unseen universal structures. Founded in scientific research and metaphysics, these structures provide an underlying framework that transcends earth and space.
